Floating timer: the timer pops out into a small always-on-top Picture-in-Picture window the moment capture starts, so it stays visible while you work in the recorded tab or any other app. It shows the countdown, REC / PAUSED state, and remaining time when a "Stop after" limit is set. If you close it (or your browser blocked the auto-open), press ⧉ Float timer to bring it back at any point during the recording. Chromium browsers get a crisp text window (Document PiP); others get a video-based fallback. Why a crop can look soft: a crop contains exactly the pixels of that screen region and no more. A 1200×700 crop played back full-screen on a 4K monitor is being upscaled ~3× by your player — that softness is geometry, not encoding. The pixel count of your selection is shown live while you drag, and every finished take lists the resolution the encoder actually wrote. Compare that number to the size you watch it at. Codec: H.264/MP4 is handled by your GPU's hardware encoder, which is tuned for camera footage and smears fine text; VP9 (WebM) is noticeably sharper on screen content at the same bitrate. Stop after: the countdown covers recording time only — the start delay doesn't count against it, and pausing pauses the clock. The take is saved exactly as if you'd hit Stop by hand. Switching tabs while recording: a capture can only record pixels the browser actually paints, and Chromium may stop painting a tab you switch away from. The FPS readout shows frames leaving the pipe live — if it falls to 0, the source stopped painting. Drag this recorder into its own window so the shared tab stays active in its window, or share Entire screen instead of a tab. Audio: browsers only provide system audio for a browser tab ("Also share tab audio") or the entire screen with "Share system audio" — a single app window never includes audio. Recordings live only in this tab's memory — download each take before closing.
